Terms

Last updated September 4, 2026 · Privacy

The short version: koala reads the course pages you point it at and texts you before things are due. It's a reminder, not a guarantee — you're still responsible for your own deadlines. Be decent to it and it'll be decent to you.

What koala is

koala is a text-message service that collects deadlines from the sources you give it (such as a Brightspace calendar feed or forwarded course email), puts them on a calendar you can subscribe to, and sends you reminders. koala+ adds reminders on a schedule you choose and study guides written from the course material you've provided. By texting koala or using the website you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy.

Texting

By texting koala you consent to receive recurring automated texts about your deadlines at the number you used. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel at any time and HELP for help. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. You must be 18 or older and the owner or authorized user of the phone you text from.

Your responsibilities

koala works from what your school's systems publish and what you send it. Feeds can be wrong, late, or change after koala reads them, and texts can be delayed by carriers. koala is a convenience, not a source of truth; you remain responsible for knowing and meeting your own deadlines. Check your course pages before anything that matters. Don't send koala anyone else's account, data, or calendar link, and don't use it to violate your school's rules or another service's terms.

Your school and other services

koala is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or supported by Vanderbilt University, D2L (Brightspace), Gradescope, zyBooks, or any other school or vendor. Whether their terms allow you to use a calendar feed or forward course email to a third-party tool is between you and them; koala only uses access that you choose to give it.

koala+ and payments

koala+ is offered as a monthly subscription or a one-time semester pass, at the prices shown on the website at the time you buy. Payments are processed by Stripe. A monthly subscription renews until you cancel; a semester pass ends on the last day of finals for the semester in which you bought it. If koala isn't working for you, email hello@lockinkoala.com within 14 days of a purchase and we'll refund it, no questions.

Study guides and AI

Study guides are generated by an AI model from the material you've provided. They can be incomplete or wrong. They are study aids, not answers, and you're responsible for how you use them and for following your school's academic integrity rules.

Ending things

Text STOP to stop all messages, or email hello@lockinkoala.com to remove your account and data. We may suspend or end your access if you abuse the service, try to break it, or use it against someone else, and we may retire koala with reasonable notice.

Limits on liability

koala is provided "as is." To the fullest extent allowed by law, we aren't liable for missed deadlines, late or undelivered texts, inaccurate information, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of koala, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the past twelve months. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law.

The boring but necessary part

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee. If we change them in a way that matters, koala will text you once. Questions: hello@lockinkoala.com.
